"WTS GOLD FURIOUS RIGHTEOUS MUAL OF FORTITUDE: 100k"
"WTS UNIDED Runes of Superior Strength (Have 7) 40k each!"
People want the 15k armors, lots of dye and other such things because when you've beaten the game multiple times and played your characters to death there's not a lot left to do but go for the expensive stuff. Also, what point is there of putting the 15k armor in the game if nobody wanted it? That's just it, a lot of people want it. For character customization and for something to work for when they've done everything else.

I'm personally surprised that it hasn't been deleted for being a flame war.

That and the meaninglessness of it all. It's like making an HTML document on a server, and filling it with 900 pages of the word "cornmeal", and that, if enough people write "cornmeal" on it, then some kind of mystical change will occurr.

Hrmm... I'm not going to read all these but I though GW was a game that didn't like Farming and Grinding.

Honestly it might be time to let go.....atleast until the update.

There is absolutely no information to support that statement, Guild War is NOT a game that doesn't like "farming", in fact if you'll go back and read Gaile's post in this thread she states that the devs have nothing against an honest farmer which goes in direct opposition to your "voice of reason". Gaile said they've nothing against farming, so I don't want to hear anymore of this "GW is against farmers" sort of thing.

I'd have to say this post did exactly what it was supposed to do, it certainly got the devs attention, and Gaile posted in it herself letting us know that they've nothing against an honest farmer and that we should wait for future updates to see if their ways of going against botters have improved as not to affect farming to this extent.

You're right, and that's why I decided to inform him of posts contradicting his statement. Someone's got to do it.

Thats absolutely silly. If the drop rate increases, then supply will increase. Prices will drop. Its a very simple deflation model.

2. Nerfing has not decreased in the past 2 weeks

3. In a live economy one cannot maintain a fixed price indefinitely without the demand to support it. (if that were the case, then all the prices for real estate will be that of the first guy who ever sold a house -- since everyone waits until they could either buy at that price or sell at that price)

I personally have no interest in ecto / shards except as far as a speculative commodity.

Now, for all those people who took econ 101:
1. prices decrease when supply exceeds demand
2. prices increase when demand exceeds supply

This applies to SPECIFIC commodity in question.

What Thanas has mistakenly thought is that farming for gold enters into the above equation. It does not -- not to nearly the same degree that a supply of ecto will affect the ecto price.

Think of it this way, if the Feds raise the interest rate, money is now more expensive, so would people buy less gas and cause gas prices to drop? Well, there are many other places money is going, so it might affect the prices of gas, but only a tiny bit.

In contrast, if OPEC cuts crude productions or several refineries stopped production, it has an immediate and direct impact on the gas price --> it goes up.

Now look at what Anet did --> they nerfed farming
1. price of ecto might dip slightly due to there been less gold to buy it
2. price of ecto will greatly increase since the supply of it has dropped

clearly #2 has outweighed #1, so the prices shot up.

now you can apply this to other similar items in the GW world, and you will see that it's true.

The price of Sup Vigor Rune dropped when its availability is increased in the game.
The prices of good gold items (near perfect axe, staff, sword) shot up with the nerfing of farming, since the supplies of these has dropped dramatically. A good sword used to run 25-40k, now it could cost 80k.
Good for you. However I am para-phrasing what GW reps said. Also I think you will find GW is not based in the real world, so real world economics don't always work. Do you feel like a man now you've flexed your virtual muscles?

BTW excess supply will occur when prices are too high. Thus you find yourself with increasing stock. Prices eventually fall. Petrol is a poor example too, since for most people it is a necessity, so they have to buy it, high price or not i.e. it has a low elastisity. Ecto and shards are however very different. Not only because they aren't real, but because within the game environment you can wait to buy them. There is no real consequnce to you not buyng them i.e they have a high elastisity.

ahh, but this is a game economy, not a real world economy, and as well as their being a lot more items for sale, all those farmers will have huge money stash's and will be able to buy items for whatever price they feel in the mood for, just like in the beginning before people complained about less drops, prices were over 100k, but farmers were very active.

Actually I didn't say GW is against Farmers...where did I say that?

What I said was they didn't like farming, meaning it was a game that you don't need to farm in order to progress and enjoy the game.

I made the comment not due what people said on this thread, but to the countless threads in the discussion forum from people b**tching and moaning about farming. It always goes from one polar opposite to another either people are against farming or then they are for it.

Sigh people have a tendancy to read only what they want or think they see

Actually I love to farm...
